Time is Running Out to Secure Federal Incentives for an EV or Heat Pump
Stepwise Tap™ - Your home can be ready quickly and affordable so you can get the tax incentives before they go away.
Get your home electrified efficiently, affordably, and on time
Federal incentives have helped people upgrade to better technologies—like electric vehicles, heat pumps, and energy-efficient home improvements. However, these incentives are going away with the passage of the "One Big Beautiful Bill".
As Rewiring America CEO Ari Matusiak put it, we’re entering a “hurry-up-and-buy, limited-time-offer” moment—meaning now is the time to act if you want to take advantage of what’s left.
But there’s a major barrier that’s flying under the radar: millions of Americans can’t electrify—even if they want to—because their homes aren’t ready for it.
Here’s the problem:
Over 48 million single-family homes (50%+) in the US lack the electric panel capacity to fully electrify: add a heat pump, EV charger, and/or electric stove or other electric appliances.
For EV chargers alone, roughly 1 in 4 households will have panel capacity constraints.
With year-end deadlines approaching for incentive eligibility, both installers and homeowners alike need fast solutions—now.
Stepwise Electric removes this roadblock with the Stepwise Tap—a U.S.-manufactured, affordable, code-compliant device that unlocks existing panel capacity without requiring an upgrade.
We fast-track electrification, helping homeowners avoid thousands in upgrade costs and empowering electricians to accelerate installs while incentives are still on the table.
Here is a summary of when the federal incentives will be gone:
✅ Incentive for heat pumps and water heaters ends December 31, 2025
The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit will go away at the end of this year. To qualify for this tax credit, the heat pump must be placed in service by the deadline, not just purchased this year.
This credit for heat pumps and water heaters is worth up to $2,000 off on your tax bill. To qualify, appliances must have a high efficiency rating. You can find tax credit-eligible equipment at the Energy Star Product Finder website.
✅ Electric vehicle tax credits end September 30, 2025
Depending on the electric vehicle, purchasers are eligible for a federal tax credit worth up to $7,500 for buying or leasing a new EV, and up to $4,000 for a used vehicle. That money is available as a cash rebate at the time of purchase and can be used as a down payment. Read here to find out if you and/or the car qualify.)
✅ Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit for installing EV chargers ends June 30, 2026
This credit is for businesses and individuals specifically in qualifying low-income or rural areas. The credit, which covers 30% of the installation cost, will end June 30, 2026. Read here to find out who qualifies.
With Stepwise Tap—no costly or complicated panel upgrade required—enabling you to make the most of these incentives while they’re still available.
